When is it okay to start buying shorts and flip flops again?

Hollister and Abercrombie are starting to sell their "spring" clothes again. Does that mean its okay to start wearing/buying them? Where I live, we still have a little bit of snow on the ground and its still chilly so I would obviously wait until the snow melts. Would it be a waste of time to buy them this early?
